About this collection

This collection brings together a selection of technical reports written by engineers from 1935 to 2001. Together they make up a history of the development of parachutes and related devices used to slow the descent of objects through air. Subjects include free fall and deceleration, textiles used to create parachute canopies, drag coefficients, load research and materials testing. This digital collection is a portion of a more extensive Parachute History Collection, and was developed as a collaborative venture between the Linda Hall Library and the Aerodynamic Deceleration Systems Technical Committee of the American Institute of Aeronautics and Astronautics.
