About this collection

This collection contains works relating to scientific theories of color and industrial applications of color science. Color systems include an array of diagrams that illustrate the scientific approach to color from the 17th through the 20th centuries, including Isaac Newton's revolutionary theory of light and color, Michel Chevreul's color wheels, Tobias Mayer's pyramid, and James Clerk Maxwell's disk mixtures. It also contains works on color printing, dyeing, and artists' pigments.
