About this collection

This collection brings together books from the history of astronomy that have become recognized for their seminal influence, presentation of initial discoveries, or historical significance. It contains a first edition of Sidereus Nuncius, in which Galileo describes the imperfections of the Universe; the first announcement of the Copernican heliocentric theory in Georg Joachim Rhäticus's Narratio Prima; and Learned Tico Brahae, His Astronomicall Coniectur, a 1632 English translation of Tycho Brahe's discovery of a Nova, and with it, the changing nature of the Universe.

For other collections on the subject of Astronomy see: Selected Images; Star Atlases, Charts, and Maps; and History of Cosmology.
